WatchWorks 3.0 is a comprehensive solution that provides database andsystems administrators the ability to proactively manage and monitorOracle databases and the machines they run on. With its X-Windows orcharacter-based interface WatchWorks provides online monitoring,alerting, history storage, reporting, and expert advise. Using thresholdsand alerts, WarchWorks observes all aspects of the database and system toensure optimal performance and minimal downtime. Through both pre-definedand user-defined events and actions, WatchWorks automatically monitorsspecific conditions within the areas of performance, space management,user activity, security and others. WatchWorks monitors performanceelements such as system overload, disk/file I/O, SGA memory, responsetime, transactions in a time period, DML volume, number of rollbacks,lock waits, deadlocks and more. WatchWorks looks at space management suchas fragmentation, free tablespace, row chaining and index suitability.WatchWorks checks such user activities as how/when the database isaccessed, database up/down, process completion (for example payroll orbackup), number of user logins, number of user processes and number ofOracle processes. WatchWork checks security items such as who isaccessing the database from where, successful and failed logins,sensitive user or terminal logins, sensitive data access, DBA commandexecutions, NOT EXISTS and RESOURCE checking and priveleged commandchecking.
